What Kind of Fishery is This

Another insanely brilliant clip from Japanese television...FISH LIFTING FIGHTO CHALLENGE!

In the years following the filming of the clip, the cats have built a shrine out of flowers and pebbles on that spot in the hope that "Sakana Kamisana(The Fish God)" will one day return.

Thanks M.

What Kind Of Fuckery Are We

My love affair still continues for Amy Winehouse.

She performed rather stiffly on David Letterman the other night but I imagine her un-moves were due to sobriety.

Two good looking and no doubt inebriated BBC performances, the second clip is a duet with Paul Weller... whose looking a little like Rod Stewart these days.

No Die

Since the SAFETY of our pet food has been getting a lot of national attention lately, I wanted to bring up a few books that greatly affected me when I read them years ago.

It's very easy these days to find affordable organic pet food and although a brand like Iams claims to be a step up from the Meow Mixes, obviously we've sadly found that there's not much difference. (And if you didn't already know IAMS has been targeted by PETA for years because of animal torture)

Foods Pet Die For by Ann M. Martin

HERE is a review and short summary of the book.

"Ms. Martin claims her investigation uncovered shocking, unknown practices of the pet food industry, including the use of diseased livestock, road kill, and euthanized pets in pet food

The parts of beef, sheep, fish, and other animals commonly used in pet food are, according to the author, often "unfit for human consumption," including spinal cords, cartilage, bone, lungs, brains, hooves, hair, intestines, fish heads and viscera.

Pet owners assume their animal will be incinerated/cremated, but sometimes the contract companies sell the animals to a rendering plant, which sends the rendered material on to a pet food manufacturing plant."

Fight Back Mourning Light

From the Arizona Republic:

A Northern California band created an online uproar with its request that "No U.S. Military entities in any form" be allowed into its show at Club Congress on Wednesday night.

The club denied Brightblack Morning Light's request but allowed the band to go ahead and headline a show on its national tour.

There was no way the club would exclude military personnel, said David Slutes, Club Congress' entertainment director. "Everyone is welcome," he said.

However, Slutes found himself responding to a barrage of reader reaction after the request was reported on the AZNightbuzz.com music blog "Hard To Explain" on Tuesday afternoon.

Comments ranged from outrage that Brightblack was allowed to perform at all to giving the band the benefit of the doubt.

"It's mostly a blog-fest," Slutes said while he waited for the band to arrive. "But the night's young."

Before the show, band member Nathan Shineywater said the band wasn't trying to discriminate against anyone. "I just came here to play the guitar," he said.

About 25 people were at the club waiting for the band to perform late Wednesday.

As of 10 p.m., the AZNightbuzz.com blog had been viewed nearly 4,500 times and it had received more than 50 comments about the issue. The blog posting was picked up by national blog Wizbangblog.com, which described the band as "neo-hippie."

By Wednesday afternoon, Wizbang posted a statement from the band's record label, Matador Records, saying the initial request's wording needed to be clarified. The band had only wished no military recruiters be present, according to Wizbang.

An e-mail response by Catherine Herrick of The Beggars Group, a publicist for Brightblack, said she wasn't able to get a statement from the band about the military request.

The band, which was supposed to take the stage at Club Congress late Wednesday, had also asked for Granny Smith apples, wine and organic snacks to be provided.
Congress had only sold 12 tickets in advance to Brightblack's show.

Brightblack makes mellow, dreamy, indie rock and its 2006 self-titled album made Rolling Stone's top 50 albums of 2006.

Cats & Dogs hate video game nerds

"The president of the Australian Veterinary Association, Kersti Seksel, said children choosing computer games over pets was a factor in the decline of pet ownership. "These days children interact more by playing computer games and less by going out there and throwing the ball to a dog. We need to learn people skills, physical skills, and sitting in the lounge room with a computer doesn't teach you that," Dr Seksel said"

"Research commissioned by the Australian Companion Animals Council shows that the number of dogs has fallen from 4 million in 2000 to 2.75 million in 2007, and cat numbers have dropped from 3.2 million in 1988 to 2.3 million.
