Saint Mr. Waffles

I'm thinking if Benedict XVI was sitting on the papal throne a few centuries ago we'd have at least one cat with sainthood today.

The New York Times - Cat Lovers Appreciate Soul Mate in Vatican

"Benedict’s kindness toward the strays of Rome is already the stuff of Vatican legend. His house in Germany, its garden guarded by a cat statue, was filled with cats when Benedict lived there full time before he was posted to the Vatican in 1982.

And Benedict is, without a doubt, the first pope to have had an authorized biography of him written by a cat — Chico, a ginger tabby who lives across the road from Benedict’s old house in Germany. "

"...because you have another eyelid"

Because reading Dean Wareham's "Black Postcards" took me back to some good memories and because it was funny and true. We give it a 3 out of 3 eyelids. Read It.

Galaxie 500 - Spook ("Everett True asked me if the song was about a cat, because cats have an extra eyelid, too. Not cat, I said, but Vulcan")

Charlie and Eli

The Daily Coyote Blog rules

"Charlie came into my life when he was just ten days old, orphaned after both his parents were killed. He lives with me and a tomcat in a one-room log cabin in Wyoming."

August 14th 2007

"Charlie and the cat are so tight, fast friends, bros. I went outside to check on Charlie the other day and he and the cat were lying side by side on their backs under the little tamarask tree in the canyon, just looking at each other and the leaves around their faces, telling stories.

Charlie's got a bit of an identity crisis going on - he comes when I say "Charlie" and also comes when I say "Kitten!" There's one large tree on the route of our daily walkabout that the cat often climbs for the fun of it - scrambling up to the top branches and then straight down - and yesterday Charlie was trying so hard to figure out how to climb the tree. He put his front paws on the tree trunk, and I could just see him thinking, "OK, I reach my front legs up, THEN WHAT??""
